A slight update or warning! I don't tend to add people I don't know to my friends list purely because I use my locked-to-friends journal to explore areas of myself and my past which I prefer to stay within my group of real life friends. As a genuine headcase (or to put it slightly more politely, a bipolar babe) with an extremely convoluted and fairly horrific past this can make disturbing reading so if you do manage to end up with access to it, please don't be too disturbed. I'm OK most of the time - but I do need to write.

Right.... warning over...

I'm Stephie - a 30-something year old, self-employed workaholic and almost certainly certifiably insane. So don't tell them where I'm hiding ;-) For years I've been fascinated with precious metals, sparkly stuff and especially opals - sadly I'm being forced to acknowledge that at the minute I DO NOT have time to learn metalsmithing and opal cutting. I do various beady & precious metal things and occasionally flirt with other crafts and have an ebay shop where I sell thousands upon thousands of beautiful things :-)

Artist.... Am I pretentious? Of course I am. I call my work 'art', my workshop a 'studio' and see 'inspiration' everywhere :p I'll get around to putting up a 'gallery' soon to 'showcase' my 'portfolio' as well. I've even got my very own fashionable mental illness to explain away my 'eccenticities'. Just be thankful I'm not churning out crap poetry any more. On the plus side I don't take myself very seriously.

I made my first piece of real jewellery when I was 17. I so wish someone had introduced me earlier! The short bout of metal work we did in school would have been so much more interesting if it had been jewellery focused and 3 years of secondary school art classes would have been far less excruciating if someone had explained you don’t need to be able to draw to be an artist. Because I can’t draw for toffee. I totally suck. I still enjoy it on occasion but my 12 year old son is significantly more talented than I!

I Likes :-)

Beads! Beads, beads, beads.
Beads are Treasure!

...and when I'm not playing with beads...

Sci-fi & fantasy tv/movies. I'm in love with Heroes S02 at the minute. And severely addicted to Battlestar Galactica (please please please release the next season soon!).

And as far as brit TV goes, I love Dr Who, Spooks and Torchwood among others.

Books. In theory I read. In theory I also read faster than anyone else I know, and I know a lot of people who read.

But in practise I rarely read due to well... lack of time and that I get so COMPLETELY immersed in whatever I'm reading that I give up little things like working, sleeping and acknowledging my family. Which tends to piss them off. So I don't read much.

Digital art. Looking at it and making it. Although its a hell of a long time since I've done any. Time constraints again. Eventually all our children will have left home and we'll have spare money and spare time all to ourselves.

*looks furtive* I'm fascinated by cross stitch. Ever since I realised that cool fairies were available in cross stitch charts (my mental image of cross stitch was always of boring flowers and such). But I haven't tried it. Yet.

And I know how stupid this looks to anyone who knows me but the following all interest me.

Hillwalking, rock climbing, caving, skating, white water rafting, trekking across south america, skydiving, snowboarding and lots of other things, frequently involving speed and/or height and getting wet. I'm an outside person at heart. I just don't go out much...

And on the same theme... nature and natural beauty.

I love rivers, waterfalls, mossy banks, forests, wildflowers, mountains, rainbows, autumn leaves, deserted, wild seaside, hummingbirds, butterflies, pretty rocks, clouds, sunset, stars, ferns, the smell of pine forests and leaf mould and the way dew sparkles on spiderwebs and roses.
